From Dusk till Dawn (1996)

I watched this movie with a couple of friends one night. It seemed like the standard Tarantino fare - crime, violence, and witty dialogue. After a killing spree, brothers Seth (George Clooney) and Richard (Tarantino) Gecko are trying to get to Mexico.
Pretty much the whole state of Texas is after them, so the Geckos need a covert way to get across the border. The Geckos kidnap preacher Jacob Fuller (Harvey Keitel) and his children, Kate (Juliette Lewis) and Scott (Ernest Liu). They hide from customs in the Fuller's RV and make it across.
The Geckos were instructed to meet Carlos just across the border, at a bar called the Titty Twister. At this point, we meet perhaps the deepest character ever played by Cheech Marin: Chet Pussy. Though his role is brief, it is truly a timeless performance that is not to be missed.
So the Geckos and the Fullers go into the Titty Twister, but there's some controversy over their presence (it's a "trucker's bar," but Jacob is technically a trucker, so they get in). Then, there's some music, drinking, and general activity that would befit an establishment called the Titty Twister.
Oh, and Salma Hayek (the character she plays is named Santanico Pandemonium, but you're probably already looking at the picture).
Then, all hell breaks loose.
My friends and I watched in amazement as the crazy vampire shit hit the proverbial fan. Vampires everywhere. Everyone at the bar turns into vampires. There's gunfire, stabbings, exploding heads, eyeballs, and house bands, green vampire goo everywhere, blaxploitation...
This part of the movie cannot
be expressed in a simple plot synopsis. It must be watched to be
fully appreciated. Perhaps the Quotes, Stills and Sounds pages
will give some insight into the greatness of the last hour or so
of the movie, but I highly suggest you see it if you haven't. |
